DKIM, or DomainKeys Identified Mail is an email authentication method designed to detect forged sender addresses in emails (email spoofing.)
Adding a DKIM signature to your outgoing email is a good (and important) way to improve the overall deliverability of your email, while also helping to protect against “email spoofing.” (which is when a bad actor sends spam or otherwise unauthorized emails which appear to come from your email address or domain, even though they’re actually coming from some other server).
It is important to note that when you setup your own email in Teesom, that the email will be sent out through the SMTP server that you specify, thus, Teesom has zero control over the deliverability of the email message. Teesom does not send email "on behalf" of your domain - actually Teesom acts like any other email client - much like Thunderbird or Outlook or whatever web-based email client is provided by, for example, your hosting company.
How We Do It
So, although it is not the responsibility of Teesom to ensure the deliverability of your emails, we can assist you by configuring DKIM for the email domain that you want to use for sending email out of Teesom.
NOTE: Doing this will only effect emails coming from Teesom.
We will use the free service at dkimcore.org to generate a pair of keys for your domain, and publish the Public Key to your domain’s DNS Zone. Then Teesom will be able to sign the emails that it sends on your behalf with the Private Key.
There are a few things to note before we can proceed:
It is possible that your hosting company already does this through their own email server. Check with them first.
If they don’t automatically sign all outgoing mail with DKIM, then the next thing to check is if you are able to get access to the DNS records for the domain in question.
We will not be able to proceed unless we can confirm access to the DNS Zone (we need to insert a record so as to publish the public key for your domain.)
Some Additional Notes:
We cannot setup DKIM for Gmail, Yahoo, Office365 or addresses at any other “cloud email” provider’s domain. It can only be done for a domain that YOU OWN.
If you used Google’s service to register your domain, double-check that you are able to get access to the DNS Zone.
